Oct 6th food journal

Oy!! What a day! These early mornings at the gym are catching up to me. And my stupid phone ran out of minutes today (I have a tracfone) so I can't make calls, texts, anything. grrrrr....

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast: AE greek yogurt, coffee
Snack: fiber one bar
Lunch: Jimmy John's Beach club sandwich with no mayo on wheat. Handful (ok two handfuls) of Doritos
Snack: one small homemade chocolate chip cookie (homemade as in I bought them at the store, took them HOME, opened the package, put them in the oven and MADE them- it works, right?)
Dinner: (just cooking now at 7:30!) spaghetti, green beans and one large-ish sized glass of red wine (heart healthy!!)

Exercise: Did about 25 min of weight lifting with abs

The kids have been "showering" for the past 15 minutes.. any guesses as to whether or not they are actually clean?

Tomorrow will be a tough eating day. Lunch with my mom at a mexican restaurant (her choice, not mine, I go crazy there) and it's my husband and I's anniversary (11 years baby!) and we're going out to eat and for martinis. We'll see if I can post tomorrow :)

Have a great day!!

October 5th Food Journal

Quick update tonight... just got back from church. Today was a crazy day, came home a bit early from work so I could make a sandwich to eat tonight at church since I helped with the book fair (only spent about $25 there, so that's a victory for me!! I LOVE BOOKS!!), then had bible study til 8. I adore our bible study group, so even though things were busy it was all wonderful and fulfilling things.

Breakfast: 1/2 c. Kashi Go Lean cereal, AE Greek yogurt, coffee w/skim milk and splenda
Lunch: same big salad as yesterday
Snack: apple with about 15-20 almonds
Dinner: turkey sandwich on wheat w/cheese and tomato and 1 Tbs of ranch dressing---- then at church I splurged and had a big salad w/regular Ranch dressing (probably 3 Tbs) and croutons... I adore croutons. And also regular cheese on the salad. Not the best choice, but certainly not the worst.

Work out this morning: 30 min treadmill (speed work) and sit ups

All in all, a pretty good day. I resisted the siren call of Bee Bops at lunch and the urge passed.. thankfully! Mostly because I didn't want to have to write it down!! :)

First Post!

Hi all. I'm working on losing some weight before the holiday season hits and I'm bombarded with sweets, baked goods and treats (oh my!). Thanks to my great friend Carey (love ya sis!), I've joined the Y and now have a couple partners for working out in the morning. I'm really looking forward to that. I'm running the Des Moines Half Marathon on Oct. 16th so now I'm kind of in resting mode for that, but my eating doesn't always sync up.
Actually if I'm being honest, my eating never syncs up to my activity level... which explains why my pants are so tight.

All this brings me to the reason I've created this blog. I need to start eating healthier food; however I also only work part time and have two kids and a husband to feed. I need to fix healthy food that's quick, cheap and easy (that'swhatshesaid). I'll be posting my food journal online and I encourage anyone who'd like to join me in this to post in the comments section their food journal. Hopefully the possibility of semi-public (I don't know how many people will even read this) humiliation will be enough to keep me from scarfing down that entire bag of chips. A girl can dream, right?

I'll be following the Dr. Oz plan You On A Diet (more info here http://www.realage.com/the-you-docs/you-on-a-diet/).

Here's to good health and better eating habits!!
